The Safety Committee met on September 24, 1998, to
discuss the reports of a crack dealer living and selling at the MacArthur Apartments.
Westminster-Canterbury again loaned us their lovely Westbrook Room for the meeting.
There we met Terry and Jill Henley, the owners of the MacArthur Apartments.
Jill and Terry told us they already have delivered an
eviction notice to the tenant in question. The young man we think is dealing is the
live-in boyfriend of this tenant. After speaking with us Thursday night, Terry went
out on Saturday and posted "No Trespassing" signs front and rear. At the
request of the Patrol, he also put street numbers on the back doors.
The eviction notice matured on Oct. 23. As of that date, our
dealer was mostly out, but some furniture remained. As of Nov. 2, the
furniture was gone and the lock was changed. Thanks, Terry and Jill!
At the Sept. 24 meeting Mauri Shaw brought along CJ
Armstrong from the West of the Boulevard Association. CJ is a landlord. She
thinks keeping order in her apartments makes it better for the tenants, and gets her
better and happier tenants, not to mention happier neighbors. She has been working
on a lease to deal with common problems such as stereos. She shared the lease with Terry & Jill and the Association.
Capt. Beadles asked for and got a copy, too.
