ANY request for public records is a FOIA request.  You don't have to say that you are filing a request under the Act, or that you expect an answer within five work days.  And you don't have to call them "public records."  All you have to do is ask for the records. 

But you are not browsing these pages to learn how to be lazy.  You are here to learn how to get results.

You want to make it as clear as possible that

  • This is a FOIA request
  • You know your rights under the Act
  • You expect the City to fully honor your rights

So cover all the bases.  Use the statutory term: "Public records."  Say what you are doing and recite your expectations.
