Pasco had been trying to get the School Board to abate the
nuisance
caused by the noise and intrusive lights at the back of Holton
School. They mostly ignored her until she appeared
at the School Board meeting on Aug. 7.
Sudie
reported that they have put a timer on the lights but as to the noise not
much is happening. A letter to
our School Board member may have produced some
progress. - We have correspondence with HUD about the use of Section 8 housing subsidies to support landlords on Chamberlayne who are allowing unacceptable crime and disorder on the property to threaten their tenants and the neighborhood.

- The EMail News has a note from Dan Lawrence about the City's habit of planting trees in the spring and then watching them die in the summer heat. Also a note from Joy Payne in memory of her husband Bill Gadway.
- Style Magazine did a story about the problems at the Redwood.

- The City looks to be getting its act together on Code Enforcement.
- The Richmond home page is growing. The GIS system is particularly nice; it includes the ability to look up any property to get the assessment and owner info, not to mention some very nice maps.

- Preliminary Good News about Princeton Creek
- The Stanford Achievement Test results for '99 are out. They verify what the SOLs have told us: The Richmond schools are bad and getting worse. The census data show that our schools are unusually expensive and carry a huge cost for administration.
- As of June 25, 2000, the State Police sex offender registry shows offenders at 3914 Chamberlayne, 3822 Chamberlayne, and 4222 Old Brook.
- The 2000 SOL results are out, but it is taking a tussle to get them. In the meantime, here are some of the 1999 results by class (i.e., by teacher).

- It turns out the City had different phone numbers for the people who deal with trees blocking streetlights along the street (646-0681) and for the people who deal with trees blocking streetlights in the alley (646-8555). - The new owner at the MacArthur Apts. sent a notice to his tenants. It says the record of calls for police services there is "disgustingly outrageous." If you drive by you'll notice he has cleaned up the parking lot and worked on the landscaping. This looks like Good News for the neighborhood.
- Crime in Bellevue was DOWN in 1999. But we had a rash of car breakins starting in December. The Civic Association circulated a flier on the subject. Please take your stuff out of the car.
- We have evidence of the 1999 meeting of the Bellevue Patrol.
- The City looks to be bending the data in order to deny that the new stop signs are helping control speeders in Bellevue.

Claremont and we are getting it: The red placard is a "no trespassing"
notice because the water has been shut off for nonpayment of the bill. The white
sheet is a code violation notice.

- On June 12, 1999, Councilman Bill Johnson gave your Association his first Outstanding Neighborhood Award.
- The April, 1999 Northside News carried a new and different rendering and story about Azalea Square.
- On March 13, Diana and John were handing out Patrol flyers on Fauquier when a Jaguar pulled up and Bill Johnson stepped out, clad in his usual black leather jacket. Diana and John used the opportunity to say what they thought about the Building Commissioner, and John followed up with a letter.
- On March 10 Chuck Epes led a delegation of our neighbors to talk to EPA about the sewage in Princeton Creek. They spoke to the State Water Control Board the next day with, we hear, good effect.
- On Feb. 17, 1999, the City's Building Commissioner stood up the Safety Committee along with Capts. Winnie Cobb and
Diana Presson from Team A of the Patrol.. Here these worthies are at the end of the
30 minutes they stood in the rain waiting for Mr. Cooper:
- On the Good News side, the abandoned house at 1410 Avondale is under roof and inside siding, and it looks much better.
