RE: Graffiti
Dear Mr. Thomas:
This week the Bellevue Neighborhood Patrol reported graffiti on the
back of your store. This morning Winnie Cobb, the captain of Team A of the Patrol, and I
verified the presence of graffiti on the loading door and on the cinderblocks of the west
wall of the store.
The Richmond Police have told us that the only sound policy for
graffiti is to paint it over, immediately. If graffiti is left in place it serves to
encourage both the same and other persons to vandalize the same place, and it further
encourages the vandals to spread their handiwork elsewhere in the neighborhood.
I know you do not want the graffiti on your store to have this effect,
and I assure you that your neighbors feel the same way. I hope we can count on your
cooperation in dealing with this problem.
With kindest regards, I am
Sincerely,
John Butcher
