We now have two years of the new, IBRS system data so we can start to look at trends.  Please recall that these incident-based data are not directly comparable to the old UCR data.

You may recall the flurry of interest in 2000-01 over stickups.  The number in Bellevue went from an unacceptable three in 2000 to an absolutely unacceptable five stickups, in 2001.

CALL DATE BUILDING NO STREET NAME OFFENSE DESCRIPTION

11/30/2000 1205 BELLEVUE ROBBERY/INDIVIDUAL

11/24/2001 4401 NEWPORT ROBBERY/INDIVIDUAL
11/24/2001 4401 NEWPORT ROBBERY/INDIVIDUAL
12/1/2001 1514 GREYCOURT ROBBERY/INDIVIDUAL

Note that the 7/20/01 and 11/24/01 stickups produced two incidents each in the database.  I am trying to find out why.  In any event, five total in 2001.

The number of burglary incidents also rose, from 19 in '00 to 31 in '01, while the thefts from buildings rose from 11 to 20.  In contrast, we saw nice decreases in aggravated assaults (dropped from three to zero), auto thefts (dropped from 24 to 15) and theft from cars (dropped from 96 to 23).  Here is a table of totals [recall that this is a count of incidents in the Police database; some events get counted multiple times (e.g., the hit and run incident on Fauquier in November produced almost 70(!) offenses) and the database is notorious for missing data].
